Inside Experience:
1. John Saunders, new Member, writes:
"Inside Aussie Investigator, I first visited a credit reporting agency and ordered a free personal credit report. Then I visited ASIO, the FBI and even took a virtual tour of the CIA! Finally I did what I came to do and looked up the addresses of some long lost school friends. Always, I was in complete control. I think this is long overdue."
"It's a great concept."

FAQ - General explanation and answer:
1. Australia does not yet have a National ID Card System, such as the U.S. Social Security Card. The closest thing to that in Australia, is perhaps your TFN or Tax File No. And possibly your Passport No., (or your banking details, such as your credit card numbers and mortgage.. ) 2. Unfortunately there's nothing that we - as Australian citizens, are free to look up, in a database, and especially.. nothing for everyone to access online! For peoplesearch tasks.
(Except for the electoral rolls just before an election... and of course the White Pages operated by Sensis®.)
3. The closest generally searchable online database for finding a missing person in Australia, is actually the Telstra® People find a person, as mentioned above.
4. Australia is rather constrained by The Privacy Act. A credit history check on someone else in this country actually requires THAT person's permission. I've noticed that the rule is even applied to the Banks. They must get a signed 'release' from the person who is the subject of the credit history inquiry. Freedom of Information only applies to your being able to view government records held on YOU. As such it is over-rated.
The Privacy Act in Australia, according to a Commercial Manager: Like it or not, this is a real issue -- enforced
by the Privacy Act-- that does prevent us giving details out unless we have the specific permission
of the participant.5. The criminal record check - unlike in USA - is limited to Police and law enforcement authorities... preparing information for The Court.
6. YES, there are additional costs. My Membership site is an introduction only. Hence the low charge of $AUD 17. Net Detective costs $US29 while Web Detective costs $US34.95 (additional.)
7. We are NOT a firm of licensed private investigators. We can only point you towards existing Australian and American Internet Resources and help you get started. You are responsible for your own actions. We urge you to respect and follow the law.
